Night Vision Binoculars: An Overview Just
like daytime binoculars, night vision binoculars provide the easiest
viewing experience regardless of your experience with night vision.
For first time users scopes are tougher to use as they tend to squint
shut one eye as they try looking through a single eyepiece for the first
time. This tends to be tiring to the extent that some people complain
of a headache after using a scope for a few minutes. That's not the
way to use a scope of course, but watch a casual user and you'll always
see them squinting way too hard.
By comparison, night vision binoculars are incredibly easy to use, even
for beginners. Bring them up to eyes, and voila, you're in business!
Nothing could be easier.
Depth Perception
Night vision binoculars also add the advantage of depth perception.
We won't go into the the details, but suffice to say that when you view
a scene through binoculars each eye is viewing things from a slightly
different angle.
When your brain processes all the information not only does it determine
just how far to the left or right and object is, but also whether objects
are in front or behind each other. Binoculars provide this depth perception
information, scopes do not.
Common Features
Each of the night vision binoculars on our site include automatic overlight
protection to turn them off if they're accidentally exposed to bright
light, a feature that helps preserve the life of the image tubes. All
of them also include integrated infrared illuminators to provide short-range
covert lighting, however we strongly recommend that you visit our Night
Vision Lighting section if you require long-range illumination.
Think outside the box - consider a
goggle system For any night vision system, be it scope, binocular or goggle,
the image intensifier represents the most expensive component in the
package. As night vision binocular systems require two image
tubes, the cost of Gen3 binoculars can easily exceed $6,000.
While this may be a justifiable expense for high-end users that require
accurate visual depth perception (such as helicopter pilots) for the
rest of us it makes more economic sense to purchase a good goggle
system and add a high power lens.
For example, our R-3250
Gen1+ goggles can be quickly converted to binoculars by unclipping
them from their headset and screwing in the optional 3.6-power lenses.
The same holds true for our high-end Gen3
PVS-7 goggles. By adding the optional 3-power lens you can
be working with a Gen3 binocular system at half the cost of a dedicated
pair of Gen3 binoculars.
Give it some thought - it's a relatively low-cost way to extend the
functionality of your goggle system.
